Aluminum Luxury Yachts
You're in the market for a boat. A yacht, to be exact. Small to medium sized, and all decked out. But you haven't decided if you want to go with fiberglass or aluminum.
You talk to the salesman. Your boat will be medium sized. You want something sturdy. You are looking for speed. And you don't want to pay the price of the boat again in fuel every time you hit the lake.
The man explains that an aluminum hull is far lighter than a fiberglass one, and will therefore give you the speed you are looking for. For the same reason, your fuel consumption will be greatly reduced and you won't be cringing every time you find yourself filling up the tank again.
He tells you that aluminum bodied yachts are more sturdy than those made of other materials. Fiberglass hulls, in the event of a blow, tend to crack and break, because of its brittle nature. After an unexpected hit, the last thing you want to find is that you've got a hole to deal with, he tells you.
In the same situation, an aluminum hull would very likely only be dented. And a dent may be ugly, but it won't sink your boat.
Repairing the damage done to a fiberglass hull can be very difficult and requires a lot of work. When an aluminum boat is damaged, it us often just a matter of pounding the aluminum back into shape. At the very worst, a panel can be cut out and replaced with a new one that is welded or riveted into place. This is much less expensive and can be accomplished much more quickly than the repair to a fiberglass boat.
One last thing he mentions. Fiberglass, besides that it is damaged more easily, is also flammable. The petroleum based resins used in making it are highly flammable and, while the boats are, of course, painted with a flame retardant resin, when damaged, the boat will go up in flames, quite readily. Aluminum, of course, will not.
This salesman seems to know his aluminum luxury yachts, and all the reasons you should have one! You ask him a few questions just to see if he's rattling a list off to you as a salesman. You find that his knowledge goes far beyond just what he's been telling you up to this point.
You ask about fiberglass yachts, just to feel like you have a balanced view of the matter, but you know you've already been sold on the aluminum. You still listen carefully, but while he is finishing his spiel a particular luxury yacht grabs your attention.
You make your way over to it, asking to be shown around. You are falling in love. This is it! It has everything on your list. You've been dreaming of this very boat! But now you aren't so sure anymore. What if it's made of fiberglass? Can you buy it?
No need to wonder or worry. The man assures you that your dream yacht is, indeed, an aluminum luxury yacht. He takes you over to start signing the papers. You can't wait to get this baby in the water.
