A Snickers Might Not, But a Motor Yacht Will
Life on the open sea: it's a dream for every one of us. The wind blowing through your hair, the spray of the water lightly kissing your face. Envigorating. There is no feeling to compare with that freedom and release. Especially when bogged down with the stress of every day life.
Work, home, rest. Work, home, rest. It gets to be far too monotonous. Even when you enjoy your job and have a wonderful family life, sometimes you just need a change of pace.
That's when the dream hits. You feel yourself released of all your responsibilities. You are on the open sea, racing past wave after wave with nothing but the open sky above you. It is rejuvinating and it's just what the doctor ordered. Or should have ordered, anyway.
Once the moment has been enjoyed for just long enough for the novelty to wear off, you reflect on where you are. Where are you? Well, you're still in the office, eat ing a snickers bar with your feet up on your desk and the salad that you should be eating still sitting in the refrigerator. But what you mean to reflect on is what are you riding!
You are in a yacht. Strictly pleasure. That's what this is about. But you aren't drifting along where the wind may take you. Certainly there are times for that kind of boating. That is relaxing and soothing. But what you're doing is cruising. This is a motor yacht.
You are in a race away from the things that have become tedious to you. You are speeding toward exactly nothing. Nothing you can see, and nothing you can name, but you do know what's behind you. Your motor yacht is wisking you away from all of your day to day tasks and worries. They're getting farther and farther away, and the smaller they get, the harder it is for you focus on them or even think about them, try though you may (because you are a responsible person, after all).
They've disappeared now. The motor is silenced and you rest. You remember nothing of your previous life. Now it's time for recreation. You decide to go for a swim. The cold water makes you feel more alive than you have in years. You are a new person.
You get back onto the motor yacht and realize that your family is there! They are also enjoying this break from school and work and all of their responsibilites. Of course you knew they deserved this too!
After enjoying an amazing lunch, laughing and chatting with your wife and kids you are brought back by a strange sound. It's the snarl of some wild animal! What snarls that lives in the water?
But wait! It's nothing coming from the water. It's just your stomach growling. You look down and see your empty snickers wrapper. You have returned. Your break has ended.
You think back on your daydream. That was the best time you remember having with your family in a long time. You want that for real.
Your stomach growls again. That Snickers didn't really satisfy you. You pick up the phone, call your wife and say, 'How about spending this Saturday looking around at motor yachts?'
